{"id":83241,"date":"2026-05-29T05:43:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T09:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vgvote.com\/?p=83241"},"modified":"2026-05-29T07:36:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T11:36:43","slug":"microsoft-responds-to-the-outer-worlds-free-upgrade-confusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vgvote.com\/?p=83241","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Responds to The Outer Worlds &#8216;Free&#8217; Upgrade Confusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/the-outer-worlds\">The Outer Worlds<\/a> developer, Obsidian, has apologized for any &#8220;confusion&#8221; after players complained that the studio reneged on a prior update stating that anyone with the base game in their libraries before May 27 could upgrade to the Spacer&#8217;s Choice Edition for free.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the month, seven years after it launched \u2014 and almost six months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/the-outer-worlds-2\">its sequel<\/a> was released \u2014 The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian confirmed it would &#8220;be pushing a couple of updates to The Outer Worlds&#8221; \u2014 the first since June 2023 \u2014 before revealing that, from May 27, the base game edition of The Outer Worlds would be delisted, leaving just the Spacer&#8217;s Choice Edition.<\/p>\n<p>The team was quick to assure players that while this wouldn&#8217;t impact anyone who already owned the base edition, it did mean that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/the-outer-worlds-is-getting-grenades-nearly-7-years-after-it-came-out\">anyone looking to pick up the game on current-gen systems after May 27<\/a> will only get the newer edition. To sweeten the deal, though, those with the vanilla game on PC (Steam, GOG, or EGS), PS5, or Xbox Series X\/S could upgrade to the Spacer&#8217;s Choice Edition for free between now and May 27.
