A writer on the game has now revealed that a different Mad Men actor, Jon Hamm, was considered for the role as well. Staton portrayed Ken Cosgrove on Mad Men, with Hamm playing the show&#8217;s leading role, Don Draper. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniel McMahon told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/la-noire-developer-considered-mad-men-star-jon-hamm-for-the-role-of-cole-phelps-but-had-a-very-good-reason-for-going-with-aaron-staton-instead\" id=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/la-noire-developer-considered-mad-men-star-jon-hamm-for-the-role-of-cole-phelps-but-had-a-very-good-reason-for-going-with-aaron-staton-instead\">IGN<\/a> that Mad Men and LA Noire had the same casting director, and that Hamm was &#8220;discussed as a possibility for the role of Cole Phelps.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It was never said at the time, but now, I understand the vision which was Jon Hamm is a wonderful actor, but he&#8217;s not Cole Phelps,&#8221; McMahon said. <\/p>\n<figure data-wp-interactive=\"core\/image\" class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-ref-id=\"1818966\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.core.image.showLightbox\" style=\"cursor: zoom-in\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/lanoire.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1818966\" \/>Aaron Staton as Cole Phelps in LA Noire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McMahon went on to say that Staton was &#8220;much better at portraying Cole&#8217;s fragility.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;He&#8217;s very smart, but he&#8217;s also young, not very experienced, and he&#8217;s just trying his best.
