Todd Howard has dismissed what he described as \u201cfan chatter\u201d about a supposed rivalry between Fallout developers Bethesda Game Studios and Obsidian Entertainment.<\/p>\n

The suggestion of animosity between the two studios revolves around the idea that Bethesda resents Obsidian for making the much-loved Fallout: New Vegas<\/a>, which some consider to be the best Fallout game.<\/p>\n

But Howard himself has never suggested this to be the reality of the studios’ relationship, and indeed has outright dismissed it at times. For example, Howard told IGN back in 2019<\/a> \u2014 after Microsoft had bought Obsidian \u2014 that BGS has \u201calways had a great relationship with them\u201d and, on New Vegas, \u201cthere\u2019s only one group that we really trust to do this, and it was awesome.”<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it was either this group or nobody,” Howard said.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to 2026, in the wake of Xbox\u2019s latest round of layoffs and confirmation that Obsidian is once again working on a new Fallout game<\/a>, Howard told Windows Central<\/a> that BGS is \u201csuper excited\u201d to be collaborating with the Avowed, The Outer Worlds, Grounded, and Pentiment developer.<\/p>\n
