But there\u2019s one that stands out as their most brilliant, subversive best. <\/p>\n<p>That would be <em>Niko Bellic<\/em>, obviously.<\/p>\n<p>Rockstar\u2019s biggest triumph, though, is that their <em>other<\/em> greatest character isn\u2019t subversive at all. In fact, he is <em>Mr. GTA<\/em>, absolutely everything you and your mum might associate with the series embodied in one gloriously nasty psychopath.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"image-with-caption\" data-image-url=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2025\/09\/22\/steven-ogg-aka-trevor-philips-in-the-walking-dead-e7gc-1758559162763.jpg\" data-image-title=\"Trevor from GTA V holding a lit Zippo lighter\" data-image-class=\"article-image-full-size\" data-image-link=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2025\/09\/22\/steven-ogg-aka-trevor-philips-in-the-walking-dead-e7gc-1758559162763.jpg\" data-caption=\"HE%26%2339%3BS%20A%20HARD%20NUT%2C%20HE%26%2339%3BS%20GOT%20A%20LIGHTER%20YOU%20CAN%20LEGALLY%20BUY%20IN%20SHOPS\" \/>\n<p>Trevor was created in part to solve the conundrum of what media wanks in the late &#8217;00s liked to call &#8220;Ludonarrative Dissonance&#8221;, a phenomenon in games like this where the actions of the player in the open world are at odds with the motivations of the character.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s something that reached its most absurd extent in GTA 4, where you had a character whose Tinder profile would read \u201cSad About War\u201d waging his own endless conflict against the LCPD, pigeons, bystanders, hot dog vendors, and anyone else. Depending on who was at the controls, of course.
