{"id":90155,"date":"2026-09-25T12:08:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T16:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vgvote.com\/?p=90155"},"modified":"2026-09-25T12:48:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T16:48:10","slug":"switch-pirate-ignored-nintendos-lawsuit-now-he-owes-4-5-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vgvote.com\/?p=90155","title":{"rendered":"Switch Pirate Ignored Nintendo\u2019s Lawsuit, Now He Owes $4.5 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/nintendo-is-suing-a-reddit-moderator-for-4-5-million\/1100-6535259\/\">suing a former Reddit moderator in October 2025 for pirating Switch games<\/a>, a Washington court has ordered the individual in question to pay Nintendo $4.5 million in damages. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/nintendo-wins-4-5-million-judgment-against-r-switchpirates-mod-archbox\/\">a September 25 TorrentFreak report<\/a>, US District Judge Lauren King ordered former r\/SwitchPirates moderator James &#8220;Archbox&#8221; Williams to cough up $4.5 million in damages to Nintendo after the company accused him of operating several pirate shops to illegally decrypt and distribute Switch games to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuit, which was filed in a Washington federal court in June 2024, stated that Williams had been running this racket since at least 2019, using &#8220;circumvention device&#8221; software to bypass the company&#8217;s systems and gain access to over 30 Nintendo Switch games. This includes titles like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/games\/the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom\/\" data-type=\"games\" data-id=\"379207\">The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/games\/mario-kart-8-deluxe-plus-super-mario-party\/\" data-type=\"games\" data-id=\"413170\">Mario Kart 8 Deluxe<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/games\/super-smash-bros-ultimate\/\" data-type=\"games\" data-id=\"352256\">Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Williams reportedly ignored the complaint at the time, which prompted Nintendo to seek the statutory maximum of $150,000 per title in October 2025.
