The previous high came when the game launched in Steam Early Access in 2023 and the player count climbed to 36,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today&#8217;s new record means the indie horror game reset the bar with a total more than four times higher than its previous best.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Red Barrels credited a few big factors for the record. For one, The Outlast Trials is enjoying a huge discount in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/the-best-steam-autumn-sale-deals\/\" data-type=\"articles\" data-id=\"1902688\">Steam Autumn Sale<\/a><\/strong>, on sale for $4&#8211;though that sale ends tomorrow (Thursday, October 8), if you&#8217;re interested. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The studio also revealed that roughly half of the players contributing to that total are from China, as the game is seeing a surge in popularity there. Naturally, the Halloween season helps too, even though it&#8217;s not one of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/turn-off-the-lights-and-play-these-11-new-horror-games-releasing-in-october\/\" data-type=\"articles\" data-id=\"1900649\">new horror games coming out this month<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure data-wp-interactive=\"core\/image\" class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-ref-id=\"1911477\" data-wp-on--click=\"actions.core.image.showLightbox\" style=\"cursor: zoom-in\" height=\"576\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image_abf886.png?w=636\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1911477\" \/>Red Barrels sent the news out on its social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Outlast Trials made its version 1.0 debut in the spring of 2024.
