Owlcat Games has given players a new look at its upcoming sci-fi RPG based on The Expanse. The latest trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn aired during Gamescom‘s Find Your Next Game showcase, giving players a better look at Owlcat’s take on one of the TV show’s most frightening foes: Project Caliban.
In The Expanse TV show (and the books upon which it is based), Project Caliban is a top-secret experiment run by a company called Protogen, which hopes to harness the recently discovered Protomolecule to create supersoldiers. Unsurprisingly, the results are tragic—and terrifying. Based on the trailer, Osiris Reborn players will be facing off with both Protogen’s hired guns and one of Project Caliban’s many unfortunate human test subjects, who has taken the form of a human-Protomolecule hybrid, just like the one shown in Season 2 of The Expanse TV show.

When it comes to the Protomolecule’s appearance, it seems that Owlcat is taking inspiration from the television show rather than the book series–in the show, the Protomolecule is a bright, glowing blue; in the books it’s described as a slimy, brownish substance rather than the bioluminescent blue seen in the latest Osiris Reborn trailer.
