Crazy Taxi Gets Crazier With Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Writers For New Movie

The Crazy Taxi franchise isn’t just getting a brand-new game next year; it’s also getting a live-action movie. Netflix and Sega have announced a new partnership that will see a Crazy Taxi film coming to the streaming service in 2027. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are penning the comedy’s screenplay, after previously working together on Naked Gun (2025), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and How I Met Your Mother.

There’s no director attached to the project, yet. However, Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher are producing the Crazy Taxi movie, alongside Sonic the Hedgehog series producer Toru Nakahara. “This film is for anyone who’s spent hours behind the wheel of a yellow cab on their Dreamcast, with the music cranked up, smashing through everything in sight just to make the next fare,” said Moritz and Ascher in the Netflix press release.

The Netflix and Sega collaboration also includes a new Sonic animated show aimed at “an upper preschool audience,” as well as a live-action movie based on Stranger Than Heaven. The latter is the newest game from developer RGG Studio–known for the Yakuza and Like A Dragon titles.
