Following an initial rollout to Xbox Insiders, the Xbox disc-to-digital program is officially available for all Xbox One and Xbox Series X users. The program allows you to receive digital licenses for a whole bunch (but not all) of your physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S games, and Microsoft has outlined how it works and a pretty neat trick you can use.
In order to claim your digital license for a supported Xbox game, all you need to do is put it into an Xbox console while you’re signed in. You’ll get a notification to let you know you’ve received a license. One cool thing is this can be an Xbox Series X or an Xbox One console, even if you’re exclusively claiming Xbox Series X games.

While the disc will also automatically start installing when you insert it, you can turn this feature off by going to the Profile & system section in the settings, then Devices & connections. You’ll see an option for Disc and you can uncheck “Play disc automatically.”
