Resident Evil Studio That’s Making Nintendo’s Zelda Movie Now Gunning For Battlefield As Well

Video games are the new battlefield for movie ideas, and after a reported bidding war, it appears Sony Pictures is the frontrunner to secure the rights to the Battlefield movie.

The Wrap reported that Sony Pictures was in the lead position to win the rights, and The Hollywood Reporter backed this up.

The Battlefield movie package reportedly includes Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie behind the camera, with Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan in the mix to star and produce it. McQuarrie is also writing and producing.

Universal, Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery (now operating under Skydance) all reportedly submitted bids for the Battlefield movie. The Wrap said the dealmaking process is “shaping up to be the biggest bidding war of the year.” The report did not mention any dollar numbers attached to the bids, or any other particulars, however. For example, if Netflix closes the deal, many might expect the film to be released on streaming instead of theatrically (but even at Netflix these days that’s not a certainty).
