If you’ve been on gaming Twitter at all over the last month, you’re probably aware of the massive wave of people using AI to rapidly decompile, port, and remix games. That wave of AI decomps has forced a massive decompilation community to sunset.

In a blog post, admin @encounter from decomp.dev, a community repository for people to track decompilation posts, cites a wave of bad actors who are using AI to essentially steal the hard work of programmers working on existing decompilation projects.

The act of decompiling games itself isn’t new, and people have been taking games and trying to decompile them down to the source code for years. But what was once a herculean task requiring coding expertise can now be done with little effort thanks to new AI models like GPT 6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5.

The blog post doesn’t blame the models themselves for the surge of vibe-coded decompilations and ports, but rather claims that bad actors are taking existing projects and then using AI to rush them to completion. While there might be some developers who are open to people with a Claude subscription using their work to create,
