Today’s Nintendo Direct included announcements tied not only to the next mainline Resident Evil game, but also new accessories. Alongside new footage of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom confirmed that the series will receive its first-ever Amiibo figures later this year, maybe signaling a broader push for Resident Evil within Nintendo’s ecosystem ahead of the game’s launch later this month.
Those Amiibos, scheduled to release this summer, feature longstanding protagonist Leon S. Kennedy and new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. Amiibo are Nintendo’s line of NFC-enabled collectible figures, introduced in 2014, and are typically used to unlock in-game items, bonuses, or cosmetic content when scanned on compatible hardware.

While Capcom has not yet detailed the functionality of the Resident Evil Requiem Amiibos, their announcement marks the first time characters from the long-running survival-horror series have been represented in the format. The two figures have Grace in a casual fit, while Leon is decked out in his trademark coat and tactical gear, but in all black.
