It’s March 31 as I write this here in the States, and April 1 already in a number of other countries. That means here in the IGN newsroom, we’re being extra careful about inadvertently falling for news tricks – fake stories, silly goofs from companies, and so forth. Most of the ones I’ve seen so far are all in good fun, but there’s one…maybe trick? Probably?…that’s getting under my skin today. I’m referring to this:

This is a tease for some sort of Nier project called Nier: Cosmic Horror. And as hopeful as one might be that this finally means another Nier game, Nier fans know that the odds are not in their favor on this one. Because we’ve been here before.
Square Enix and series director Yoko Taro are always doing this. The Nier series is deeply beloved by its fans, and the one thing everyone wants most is a brand new, AAA, PC and console game that picks up the series where it left off in Automata, or at least a few millenia later. But for years, Square has been playing this weird game of teasing new Nier project
