The pirate game Windrose is out now on Steam in early access, but many are wondering if developer Kraken Express might bring the game to console at some point. Here’s what we know.
On the Windrose website, the developer stated that Windrose is confirmed only for PC via Steam right now. As for “future platform announcements,” the studio said “keep an eye on official channels.”
For anyone hoping to play Windrose on console, that statement leaves open the possibility of a future console release. Anything is possible, though, so don’t get your hopes up too high just yet.
Windrose began development as a free-to-play MMO called Crosswind, but the studio pivoted in a big way, dropping the free-to-play business model, changing the name to Windrose, and adjusting the game to be a survival-adventure title as opposed to an MMO with PvP elements.
Windrose takes place in the Age of Piracy. Not the real one from world history, but an alternative Age of Piracy, the developers said. The game features a “build-craft-survive” gameplay loop, with combat described as being “souls-like.” Players can also take part in naval battles and base-building.
