Resident Evil Requiem Producer “Explains” Game’s Title, Confusing Us More

The meaning of Resident Evil Requiem’s title appeared to be self-evident when it was released earlier this year. However, Resident Evil producer Jun Takeuchi’s explanation for the title from the recently published Biohazard 30th Anniversary Special may be a head-scratcher for even the series’ diehard fans.

“‘Requiem’ isn’t just a title chosen for its meaning of ‘requiem,'” said Takeuchi via GamesRadar. “The spelling of Requiem (REQUIEM) contains not only the ‘RE (response)’ … but also a ‘Q (question).’ In other words, this ‘Requiem’ presents both an ‘answer’ and a ‘question.’ I will explain the meaning of that at some point in the future.”

More intriguingly, Takeuchi indicated that the Resident Evil remake games and the current titles have been building towards a crossover since Resident Evil Village.

“Currently, Resident Evil operates on a two-pronged approach: The numbered titles allow players to experience the ongoing drama of the series, while the remake series lets them experience the past,” added Takeuchi. “Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered.
